Great Post on Cork Flooring
Over on HGTVpro.com; Andrew and Stacy, The Green Team, write about cork flooring pros and cons:
Popping the cork - getting to know cork flooring
I think cork is an ideal product for kitchens and other rooms where you want a smooth, cleanable floor but hardwood won't work because of noise transmission.
Cork has better sound dampening characteristics than any other hard surface flooring.
Easy on the feet, legs, and back too!

Question related to use of hardwood flooring in a kitchen (Bella wood prefinished) -- if planning to add a working island with stool seating also -- how will the floor stand up to scuffing from the stools?? How will it stand up to inevitable spills from preparing and cooking?
ReplyDeleteIs a high grade vinyl a better choice for this area??

The best thing to do with any sort of stools or chairs on any flooring is to apply those thick felt floor protector pads to the tips of the legs.
ReplyDeleteOnce you put them on you will see that even heavy chairs or stools slide easily and do not mar the floor.
The trick is to replace them as soon as they shift or wear out.
My husband constantly monitors the "feeties" on our heavy dining room chairs and replaces them quite often.
As a result we have no scratches or wear from our chairs on our hardwood floors.
We use FLOR PROTECTORS PEEL-N-STICK which can be found at:

I have an article on my web site that details the pros and cons of different types of flooring for kitchens at:

Given all the possibilities, I really think hardwood makes the best flooring for most kitchens.
