Sub-Blogs

Appliance Notes is a blog where I file all the new and interesting kitchen appliances I see in the course of my work. I also include articles on choosing appliances here.
Kitschy Kitchens is a blog where I critique the worst of the worst in kitchens. Poor design, an assault on the eyes, wrong colors, wrong materials; they all can be found there. Take an amusing detour to discover what you DON'T want in a kitchen.

Cabinet Installation Article

I just came across the BEST article I've ever seen on installing face frame kitchen cabinets, or any cabinets for that matter.

It's on Woodweb's Knowledge Base.

Installing Framed Cabinets, by Carl Hagstrom, originally appeared in the Journal of Light Construction.

If you are going the DIY route, this should be your bible.

  1. Great resource for installing cabinets, Peggy!

Some kitchens don't allow the designer to have exactly 19.5" above the counter, so I usually try to get within 18" to 21".

  2. Oops. Missed that.
    Glad you corrected it Lionel.
I usually go for 15-18" between the counter surface and the bottoms of upper cabinets.
I have 15" in my own kitchen and don't own one of those monster Kitchenaid mixers, so everything fits just fine.
